Ratan Tata

Ratan Tata is an Indian industrialist, philanthropist, and former chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group. He was born on December 28, 1937, in Bombay, India. Ratan Tata is the son of Naval Tata, who was adopted by Sir Ratan Tata, the founder of the Tata Group.



Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group in 1961 and became the chairman of the group in 1991. Under his leadership, the Tata Group expanded into various new sectors, including information technology, telecommunications, and hospitality. He is also credited with the acquisition of international brands such as Tetley Tea, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus Steel.


Ratan Tata is known for his philanthropic work and has established several charitable trusts. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and serves on the board of directors of various other organizations. Ratan Tata has received several awards and honors for his contribution to business and philanthropy, including the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, two of India's highest civilian honors.
