Janmashtami
Janmashtami is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, who is considered one of the most important deities in the Hindu religion. The festival is usually celebrated in August or September, on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Bhadrapada.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna was born in Mathura to Devaki and Vasudeva on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada. Lord Krishna is considered to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and is revered for his wisdom, love, and bravery.
During Janmashtami, devotees observe fasts, offer prayers, and chant bhajans (devotional songs) in honor of Lord Krishna. Many people also decorate their homes and temples with flowers and lights, and perform puja (worship) rituals.
One of the main highlights of Janmashtami is the dahi handi, a traditional ritual in which a group of young men form a human pyramid to reach and break a clay pot filled with buttermilk, which is hung high above the ground. This ritual is believed to be a reenactment of Lord Krishna's childhood prank of stealing butter and milk from the houses in his village.
Janmashtami is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion by Hindus all over the world, and it is an occasion for people to come together to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna and to seek his blessings for prosperity, happiness, and wisdom.
